Corporate security, executive protection and loss prevention
Security management, executive protection, asset protection and loss prevention at companies, hospitals, campuses and venues.
What the work is
- Corporate security teams protect a company's people, sites and events: access control, investigations of workplace incidents, threat assessment, travel security and emergency plans.
- Executive protection (EP) agents plan and run protective details for executives and other principals: advance work, route and venue planning, driving and close protection.
- Asset protection / loss prevention in retail, logistics and distribution investigates theft and fraud, works organized retail crime cases with police, and trains store teams.
- Healthcare and campus security leads security programs at hospitals and universities, often working closely with local police.
How your LE experience translates
Patrol and investigations give you incident command, de-escalation, report writing, interviewing, surveillance and evidence handling, plus working relationships with local agencies and prosecutors. Supervisors bring scheduling, training and use-of-force review. Protective details, dignitary protection or SWAT work translate directly to EP.
What employers usually ask for
Postings commonly ask for investigations or security experience, clear written reports, and sometimes a state security license, an armed guard card or a driver's license with a clean record. Management roles often ask for budget experience and certifications such as ASIS credentials. These are examples employers list, not endorsements.
Getting started
- Check whether your state requires a security or armed guard license for the role, and how prior LE service is treated.
- Off-duty and side jobs are a common bridge; check your agency's secondary employment policy first.
