Acceptable Use & Posting Guidelines
Plain-English rules for everyone who posts on or uses SecondWatch Careers. They're part of our Terms of Service. Version 2026-10-02.draft2.
Post real jobs, honestly
- Only real, open positions that you're hiring for (or are authorized to post for a named client).
- Say clearly what the law enforcement experience requirement is.
- No fees for applicants. Never ask applicants to pay for training, equipment, background checks or "processing".
- Don't copy someone else's listing or post the same job over and over.
Show the pay
- Give a real, good-faith pay range (minimum and maximum) and how it's paid (per hour, year, etc.).
- It's required on this site for jobs in states and cities with pay-transparency laws, and for remote jobs. We encourage it everywhere. Posts with pay get more applicants.
- Don't list a range you wouldn't actually pay.
Don't discriminate
Don't say or imply who you do or don't want based on race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran or military status, or any other protected status.
| Instead of… | Try… |
|---|---|
| "young, energetic team", "recent grads", "under 35" | "fast-paced team", "entry-level welcome" |
| "salesman", "policeman", "he will…" | "sales representative", "police officer", "you will…" |
| "native English speaker", "U.S.-born" | "fluent in English" (if the job needs it) |
| "must be a U.S. citizen" (with no legal basis) | "must be authorized to work in the U.S." or "U.S. citizenship required by [statute/agency rule]" |
| "no felons", "clean record" (blanket ban) | "must pass a background check consistent with applicable law" or the specific legal disqualifier for a sworn role |
| "must be able-bodied" | "must be able to perform the essential functions (with or without reasonable accommodation), including…" |
| "tell us your current salary" | "what are your pay expectations?" |
Sworn and law enforcement positions are different. Some requirements are set by law, for example a minimum age of 21, federal maximum entry ages, citizenship, or POST disqualifiers for certain convictions. Those are fine, and it helps to say where they come from ("minimum age 21 per state POST standards").
Our system automatically flags wording like the examples above. A flagged post is held for a quick human review, not rejected. We'll approve it if the wording is lawful for the job, or ask you to change it.
Respect privacy and safety
- Don't post anyone's personal information, and especially not officers' home addresses, family details or photos without permission.
- Recruiter contact details appear only if the agency confirms the recruiter agreed.
- Don't use the site to collect personal data for anything other than hiring.
Don't misuse the site
No spam, scams, malware, scraping or bulk downloading, attempts to break security or access other accounts, harassment or hate, or fake reports.
