Search filters: pay, distance, shift, job type, degree and lateral friendly
On Find jobs, open More filters under the search box. You can combine any filters. Active filters show as chips above the results, and you can remove each one with its ×.
Pay range
Enter a minimum, a maximum or both, and choose per year or per hour. Hourly pay is converted to yearly at 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks) so the two can be compared. A job matches if its stated pay range overlaps yours.
Only jobs that state pay are included. A listing with no pay isn't treated as matching.
Distance from a ZIP code
Enter a 5-digit ZIP code and choose 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles. Distance is measured in a straight line ("as the crow flies") from the center of the ZIP code area to the job's city, so driving distance will be longer. Each matching job shows roughly how far away it is.
- We use the U.S. Census Bureau's public ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) and place files, bundled with the site. Your ZIP code isn't sent to any mapping or geocoding service.
- Some ZIP codes (for example, PO-box-only ZIPs) don't have a Census area. If yours isn't recognized, try a nearby residential ZIP.
- Remote jobs, and jobs whose city we can't pin down (for example "Multiple locations"), are left out of distance searches.
Shift, job type and degree
- Shift: day, night, rotating or flex.
- Job type: full-time, part-time, contract, per diem or temporary.
- No degree required: jobs that say no degree is needed, or that state a high school diploma or GED as the minimum without mentioning any degree.
Lateral friendly
Shows jobs from agencies whose own hiring information on this site says they accept lateral officers, or waive or shorten the academy for them. It applies to verified agencies' posts and to imported listings matched to a claimed agency. See the lateral transfer guide.
"Not stated" means left out
For imported listings (from other job sites), we only fill in pay, shift, job type and degree when the listing text clearly says so. Anything we aren't sure about is marked not stated and left out of that filter rather than guessed. So a filter can hide some jobs that would actually fit. If you want to see everything, clear the filter.
For jobs posted on this site, the employer sets these fields on the post form.
Off-duty and side jobs
The Off-Duty & Side Jobs category collects extra-duty, special-duty and side work. Before taking side work, check your agency's secondary-employment policy.
Saving a filtered search
🔔 Get alerts for this search saves your filters too, including pay, distance, shift, job type, degree and lateral friendly. See Job alerts and saved searches.
Agency jobs or private sector
The toggle above the results switches between All, Agency jobs and Private sector & non-agency. It works with every other filter and can be saved in an alert. How the label is decided: Private-sector jobs.
